The Courtois Institute for Biomedical Innovation (CI²B) is a major initiative of the Faculty of Medicine at the Université de Montréal. Its mission is to unravel the mysteries of life through cutting-edge fundamental research.

 

The CI²B brings together more than 45 researchers from the faculty’s five fundamental science departments, along with their team members. These teams promote the integration of quantitative methods and innovative approaches, leveraging state-of-the-art technological platforms to better understand how living organisms function— from single molecules to their organization into complex cellular systems. Our in-depth research is dedicated to the primary axes of the institute :1) structural and computational biology, 2) microbial pathogenesis and physiology, 3) neurobiology and systems neuroscience, and 4) molecular pathophysiology and cellular dynamics. We openly share our data, ideas, and tools with the global scientific community to accelerate progress and unlock the full potential of our discoveries.

The CI²B is seeking applications from talented postdoctoral fellows for a two-year fellowship program.

 

Objectives

 

The objectives of the program are to:

 

To attract and retain top postdoctoral researchers from around the world and/or currently at the Université de Montréal (UdeM), who are future leaders in fields and topics related to the strategic priorities of the Courtois Institute for Biomedical Innovation (CI²B) of the Faculty of Medicine, UdeM; Foster the development of cutting-edge collaborative and applied research projects; Offer an immersive experience in the UdeM ecosystem.

 

Funding description

The annual amount allocated includes the full salary of the postdoctoral fellow according to the principles established by the Université de Montréal. This includes up to CAD$63,819 in salary/year plus full benefits, and a $20,000 research allocation.

 

The total duration of the grant is a maximum of two years.

 

This fellowship cannot be combined with another nominative scholarship from a granting agency to exceed the maximum amount of the scholarship (e.g. NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR).

 

Applicants from countries eligible for Canada’s official development assistance may, upon request, be reimbursed for their relocation expenses to Quebec according to the rules of this program.

 

Eligibility criteria

 

The candidate:

 

• Obtained their doctorate (Ph.D.) less than three years before the start of funding; or plans to obtain their doctorate by the start of funding; and
• Is registered as a postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of a Ci²B member at the Université de Montréal at the start of the funding period; and
• Obtained written support from a CI²B research professor (to be included with the application) to conduct a 2-year scientific project;
• Must maintain their postdoctoral fellow status for the duration of the funding (2 years).

Applications from under-represented groups are strongly encouraged*.

 

The supervisor must :

 

• Be a regular member of the Faculty of Medicine and the CI²B;
• Hold one of the following eligible positions: professor (including sub-grant) at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor;
• Not be or have been the candidate’s thesis supervisor or co-supervisor.

The application file must include:

 

1. The application form, available on our website;
2. A non-scientific abstract. Please provide a summary of your research project in clear and simple language (maximum 200 words).
3. A description of your potential project (maximum 3 pages; references may be listed on an additional page). Provide a detailed description of the proposed research, including the following:
   1. the objectives of the proposed research program,
   2. the research questions or hypotheses,
   3. the place of the proposed research in relation to current knowledge in the field,
   4. an explanation of the originality and potential importance of the proposed research,
   5. the methodology (including timelines) and the reasons for its selection,
   6. an outline of the collaboration plans,
   7. the contribution the research will make to the advancement of knowledge;

4.    A cover letter (maximum 2 pages) explaining your intended career path and the relevance of the postdoctoral fellowship in this context;

5.    Canadian Common CV in CIHR academic format;

6.   Your official doctoral transcripts (please explain the grading scale if your university is not Canadian);

7.   At least two letters of recommendation;

8.    You must also include a letter of support from an eligible supervisor, who agreed to support your application.
