Assistant Professor in Quantitative Genetics

The Department of Biological Sciences at the Université de Montréal is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to develop an innovative and internationally competitive research program related to quantitative genetics that can integrate a variety of approaches (theoretical, experimental, etc.) where plants are the object of study or an integral part of the studied systems. The successful candidate will join the Institut de recherche en biologie végétale (IRBV) (https://irbv.umontreal.ca/?lang=en).

 

Department Statement

Vibrant, multidisciplinary, and innovative, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences is one of Université de Montréal’s largest faculties. Through its 29 departments, schools, centers, and institutes, it offers over 300 programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, some of which are unique in Quebec. The Department of Biological Sciences brings together research teams committed to training qualified scientists and responsible citizens by engaging in research to advance knowledge and promote quality teaching. The Department comprises experts working in a multidisciplinary context to apprehend and understand all facets of life – animal, plant, and microbial – from the molecule to the ecosystem and to promote a sustainable environment for future generations. The successful candidate will be attached to the Institut de recherche en biologie végétale (IRBV), which benefits from a unique partnership with the Montréal Botanical Garden. The IRBV’s mission is to develop a center of excellence for plant biology research.

 

Responsibilities

Through your teaching and research activities, you will play a pivotal role in fostering excellence within your faculty. Furthermore, you will enhance the prominence of your area of expertise and actively participate in the daily activities of our renowned university. In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop an innovative and competitive research program on an international scale related to quantitative genetics that can integrate various approaches (theoretical, experimental, etc.) where plants are the object of study or an integral part of the studied systems.
  • Teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and supervise graduate students.
  • Contribute to the operation and development of the Department of Biological Sciences, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and the Université de Montréal through contributions to committees and working groups.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and to the outreach of the University through conferences, publications, and scientific activities.

 

Requirements:

  • Hold a PhD in biological sciences or a related discipline.
  • An excellent record of publications in the field of quantitative genetics.
  • Demonstrate the potential to develop internal, in particular with the IRBV (Institut de recherche en biologie végétale), national and international collaborations.
  • Demonstrate ability to provide high-quality university teaching and supervising students. Adequate proficiency in the French language or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required upon assuming the position in accordance with Université de Montréal’s Language Policy. A French language learning assistance program is offered to all professors who wish to acquire French language skills or enhance their communication abilities.
